We are now inviting applications to fill multiple tenure-line faculty positions in the areas of Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, and Materials Science and Engineering etc. The successful candidates for  these positions will benefit from the resources, support, and a multidisciplinary research environment fostered by Sichuan University, University of Pittsburgh, and other partnering institutions around the globe. Type: Full-Time

Sichuan University-Pittsburgh Institute (SCUPI), located in Chengdu, China, invites applications to fill faculty positions (tenure-track or non-tenure stream) in Industrial Engineering at Assistant or Associate Professor level. Both positions are to start from the 2022 Fall Semester.

  1. Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree by the time of hire. Many general areas of IE: Operations Research, Advanced Operations Research, Simulation Modeling, and Information Systems Engineering are desired. Areas such as Human Factor, Engineering Management, Engineering Economic Analysis, Productivity Analysis, Supply Chains, Inventory Management, and other IE fundamental subjects are also considered.
  2. Successful applicants for the tenure-track position should have the ability to build an externally funded research program, as well as contribute to the teaching mission of the Institute.
  3. Effective oral and written communication in English is required, as English is the official language of the Institute.

Terms of employment, including salary, relocation, and start-up packages are competitive and on par with similar offers by universities in North America.

Sichuan University-Pittsburgh Institute (SCUPI) Writing Center invites applicants for a position teaching English as a Second Language and English Writing courses and offering one-on-one writing consultation sessions. The position will be available February 2020. We are seeking outstanding candidates with a demonstrated commitment to pedagogical excellence, especially in teaching writing and language skills to undergraduates. Successful candidates will contribute to the development of the SCUPI Writing Center courses and academic support. To this end, we invite applications not only from those with backgrounds in EFL or TESOL but also from related areas (e.g., linguistics, education, MFA in English, journalism) with experience in teaching writing-intensive courses, ESL courses, or working as a writing consultant in a Writing Center.

RANK and COMPENSATION

The opening is for full-time faculty position, rank and compensation depending on qualifications. Terms of employment, including salary, relocation and start-up package are competitive and on par with those offered by U.S. universities or their affiliated units in China.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

—Developing course and instructional materials, including syllabi, assignments, assessments, lesson plans, and reports

—Conducting Writing Center Consultation Sessions

—Holding office hours for students regarding coursework, writing consultations, and academic advising

—Performing general service responsibilities associated with academic settings of higher education in the U.S. and China

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

—One of the following degrees: MA in EFL, TESOL, or Linguistics; MFA in Writing; MA in English Literature, Journalism or related field in the Humanities and Social Sciences with qualifications and experience teaching ESL

—Minimum 2 years college-level teaching experience

—High level of English proficiency

—Flexibility and ability to work with others in a dynamic, collaborative environment

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

—Experience working in a Writing Center and/or teaching English for STEM

—Background in testing and evaluating student language abilities

—Experience in cross-cultural or global working environment

—Familiarity with curriculum and course development

—Experience developing and leading extra-curricular student activities and competitions

Sichuan University-Pittsburgh Institute (SCUPI) Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) program invites applicants for a position in the Digital Humanities (broadly conceived) and to help develop a Digital Narrative and Interactive Design major. We are seeking outstanding candidates with a demonstrated commitment to pedagogical excellence, especially in teaching undergraduate courses. We are interested in candidates with an active research agenda as well as technical background in programming, developing, or designing digitally-based projects. We are looking for candidates who can contribute to a shared vision of building an innovative Humanities and Social Sciences program that addresses the unique needs of SCUPI students and harnesses the academic potential of Sichuan University and the University of Pittsburgh.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Ph.D. in Digital Humanities, or in a relevant field with a specialization in digital media and culture, digital narratives, humanities/social sciences computing, GIS, new media, interactive platforms, game design, education technology, or other digital humanities-focused work; an established scholarly agenda in digital and humanistic/social science studies; and a strong record of teaching integrated humanities/social science courses. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated experience teaching digital humanities content at the undergraduate level and working with students on digital humanities-focused research projects.

—Flexibility and ability to work with others in a collaborative, dynamic environment

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

—Ability to teach coding, app design, game design, VR design, 3-D Imaging, and/or data analysis
