“I like the professor’s teaching style. The arrangement of the desks and chairs is also good for discussion.”

“It doesn’t feel far, and there’s really not much difference between the distance from the dorms to the new building and the distance to the liberal arts building. “

“It would be nice if there was a cafeteria soon so I could spend the day in the new building.”

On Monday 26 th Feb 2024, the brand-new building of Sichuan University – Pittsburgh Institute (SCUPI) welcomed its first students and instructors of Spring 2024 semester.

Prof. Yang Liu is thrilled about his new classroom. “I’m delighted with our new building. And I’m super excited to have tons of space and first-class hardware,” he said.

“Four screens on the two sides of the classroom walls are great so that no matter where the students sit in the classroom, they can see the slides. I also like the circular seating layout so that I can walk around the classroom in multiple lines,” Prof. Ruiqi Dong expressed her satisfaction with the multi-screen classrooms.

“What an achievement by everyone involved.” Prof. Jianzhao Li said. He also looks forward to exploring more interactions with his students over the course of the semester.

This semester, SCUPI offers a total of 78 courses and 126 sessions. Among them, the SCUPI new building has a total of six classrooms and two laboratories in use for teaching, which are responsible for teaching 15 courses and 24 sessions. Meanwhile, most of the courses are still being taught in the teaching areas of the Liberal Arts Building in the third and fourth zones of the Jiang’an Campus.

To guarantee the teaching and learning quality in the first week of this semester of the Institute, especially of the new teaching building, the relevant departments of the University and the Institute attached great importance to the preparatory work at the beginning of the semester. Jinsong You, Vice President of Sichuan University, and Xiaohu Liu, Deputy Secretary of the University, and other leaders of the University led their respective teams to the SCUPI new building to inspect the preparations work of the semester. From one week before the commencement of the semester, the SCUPI leadership and all faculty and staff members have also been busy getting the classrooms and laboratories ready for the first day.

This first week marks an exciting chapter in the Institute’s journey, as it will be milestones of a ten-year wait for a permanent building of all SCUPIANS. The SCUPIANS are delighted to gradually move into their new permanent home and look forward to the completion of the entire building and meeting the expanding enrollment needs.
