To guide students in establishing a sense of integrity and strictly adhering to the bottom line of academic integrity, we organized a series of activities for the 2025 Academic Integrity Promotion Month. As part of the series, at 1:00 PM on October 24th, 2025, Jiang’an South Campus, Sichuan University, Associate Professor Yumei Li and Assistant Professor Ruiqi Dong delivered insightful lectures on academic integrity.
Part 1: Address by Deans

At the beginning of the event, TsunZee Mai, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, and Di Liu, Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs, shared their perspectives on academic integrity. Associate Dean Mai emphasized that integrity is the foundation of personal character and academic pursuits, highlighting the importance of fostering awareness of academic integrity and adhering to academic ethics for university students. He noted that the earlier students recognize the significance of academic integrity, the more beneficial it will be for their growth and development. Assistant Dean Liu encouraged students to communicate with her, proactively enhance their understanding of academic integrity, and actively explore ways to learn about academic integrity, consciously becoming upholders and defenders of academic integrity.
Part 2: Upholding Integrity: Ethical Use of AI in Academic English Writing

01 Explanation of Principles
Professor Yumei Li began by explaining the working principles of Generative AI, focusing on the concept of “AI hallucinations.” AI hallucinations refer to instances where large language models confidently generate false, misleading, or fabricated information. Drawing from her teaching experience in research-oriented English paper writing courses and her use of ChatGPT, Professor Li elaborated on the phenomenon of AI hallucinations. She reminded students to maintain a cautious and critical attitude when using AI tools to assist in scientific research and to carefully discern the authenticity of AI-generated content.
02 Practical Cases
Professor Li provided examples of erroneous feedback from using AI in academic English writing. By combining real-life cases from students’ writing experiences, she vividly illustrated the potential issues of using AI in writing and demonstrated how to appropriately utilize AI for constructing main ideas, outlining paraphrasing, checking grammar and citations, and more. She emphasized the importance of rigorously evaluating the accuracy and biases of AI-generated content and cross-referencing with reliable academic sources.
03 Conclusion
At the end of her presentation, Professor Li quoted Hu Shi’s words, “Do not take others’ eyes as your eyes, nor others’ ears as your ears,” to deepen and extend the theme. She reiterated the need to maintain a critical attitude when using AI tools for learning and to view the role of AI in learning dialectically.

Part 3: Ethical Norms in Science and Technology and Related Academic Misconduct

01 Inspirational Introduction
Assistant Professor Ruiqi Dong began with a video, quickly engaging students in interactive participation. She guided students to reflect deeply on scientific ethics through eight core questions.
02 Technology Ethics
Professor Dong emphasized that ethical norms in science and technology encompass three core aspects: technological ethics, social responsibility, and academic misconduct. She stressed the need to balance benefits and risks. She then detailed the criteria for identifying academic misconduct, urging students to take heed and consciously resist such behaviors. Additionally, Professor Dong shared cases of academic ethics in fields such as genetic healthcare, ecology, materials, and information technology, highlighting that technological development must consider harmlessness, beneficence, and social justice. She also emphasized the importance of protecting users’ rights to informed consent and privacy during the promotion of technology.
03 Summary of Principles
In conclusion, Professor Dong provided a profound summary of the content related to scientific ethics. She expressed her hope that students would adhere to academic standards, remember the moral sense, responsibility, and compassion befitting their roles as scholars, and fulfill the requirements of scientific ethics with the spirit of scientists and the identity of researchers.

Part 4: Conclusion
This event not only represents a concrete practice of integrity education but also serves as an important initiative to foster a positive academic environment. In the future, students will interpret the profound meaning of “Academic Integrity Matters” through practical actions and write their life chapters with excellence. We will continue to organize more exciting activities on academic integrity.
