Industrial Engineering is concerned with the design, improvement, and installation of integrated systems of people, material, information, equipment, and energy. It draws upon specialized knowledge and skills in the mathematical, physical, and social sciences together with the principles and methods of engineering analysis and design to specify, predict, and evaluate the results to be obtained from such systems.

Industrial Engineering is the branch of engineering that focuses on improving the efficiency and effectiveness of systems and processes. It’s a broad field, and there are opportunities in any type of industry. The IE program offered at Swanson School of Engineering, University of Pittsburgh, ranks in the top 20 in the US. It provides students with international study opportunities, wider industrial connections and relationships, and an active student body.
