Sichuan University-Pittsburgh Institute Successfully Held Class of 2027 Parents Meeting

On September 10, 2023, Sichuan University-Pittsburgh Institute (SCUPI) held a Parents Meeting for the Class of 2027 successfully at the Waterborne Lecture Hall, Jiang’an Campus to help parents of the 2023 freshmen gain a deeper understanding of the overall situation, including teaching operations and management, the talent training mechanism, student-related initiatives at SCUPI, all aimed at ensuring the comprehensive development of students.

This meeting was conducted via online and offline approaches. Participants included Dr. TZ Mai, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs; Dr. Ye Li, Assistant Dean for Student Affairs; Dr. Kang Li, Associate Dean for Research Affairs; Ms. Wei Tang, Director of Administration; staff representatives; and parents of the Class of 2027. The meeting was hosted by Ms. Fan Yang, Student Counselor for the Class of 2027.

At the beginning of the meeting, Dean Mai expressed a warm welcome to the parents from online and offline. He also explained that SCUPI, by combining high-quality faculty and abundant teaching resources from Sichuan University and the University of Pittsburgh, is dedicated to cultivating highly qualified international talents with an integrated Eastern and Western education approach. In recent years, SCUPI has continuously reformed its operational mechanisms and educational curriculum, creating a teaching system suitable for all students and improving teaching quality and standards. SCUPI has cultivated many outstanding students who have gained high recognition from the society.

Dr. Ye Li pointed out that SCUPI would continue to play a leading role in collaborative education, fulfill its educational and teaching responsibilities, implement the task of moral education, and build a platform for communication and cooperation between SCUPI and parents. At the same time, he urged parents to prioritize the physical and mental health of students, create a supportive family environment, and contribute to the holistic development of students. Through collaborative efforts between SCUPI and parents, he hoped that we can collectively nurture well-rounded individuals capable of contributing to the society.

Subsequently, Ms. Wenxi Mou, representing SCUPI Academic Affairs, stated that SCUPI is committed to establishing an internationalized academic system, providing comprehensive learning support and a professional and scientific assessment system for students. The Career Advising Group of SCUPI will provide professional one-on-one consultation services, diverse lectures, and alumni connections for each student.

Ms. Lu Wang from the Office of Study Abroad provided information about the application requirements for joint programs at SCUPI to parents. She encouraged students to strive for excellent academic and language achievements in their freshman and sophomore years.

Student Counselor for the Class of 2027 Ms. Fannie Yang shared relevant information about Sichuan University and SCUPI, including the overall situation of the freshmen, academic atmosphere, behavioral norms, mental health as well as cultural activities on campus. She encouraged parents to motivate students to actively engage in activities and campus life.

As the meeting concluded, leaders and staff representatives addressed inquiries posed by parents, facilitating a deeper understanding of SCUPI’s unique approach to talent nurturing.
