Sichuan University – Pittsburgh Institute Successfully Held 2026 Undergraduate Commencement Ceremony, Congratulations to All the SCUPI Graduates!

At 3:00 p.m. on June 18th, 2026, the Sichuan University – Pittsburgh Institute (SCUPI) celebrated its 2026 undergraduate commencement at the Multi-function Hall of the Interdisciplinary Integration Platform and Art Education Center, Jiang’an Campus, Sichuan University.

All institute leaders, faculty representatives, and students’ parents of Sichuan University-Pittsburgh Institute attended the ceremony. The commencement ceremony was co-hosted by Yuchen Yang, student counselor for the Class of 2026, and Yuze Yang, a graduate of the Class of 2026.

The ceremony kicked off with a speech by Dean Minking Chyu. He first extended congratulations to all graduates of the Class of 2026 and expressed sincere gratitude to all faculty and staff of the institute. He shared a message for engineering students: equipped with technological power to reshape the future, you shall value kindness and uphold fairness amid innovation and research. When making technical decisions, always hold empathy in your heart, and create technology with warmth to benefit all people. At the end of his speech, Dean Chyu presented awards to three outstanding contributing faculty members.

The three award-winning professors delivered speeches respectively. Professor Robyn Lee Najar echoed the dean’s remarks and encouraged graduates to embrace artificial intelligence while acknowledging the social impacts of technological progress. Professor Tony Ho hoped graduates could maintain independent thinking, stay true to themselves, and keep a persistent passion for exploration. Professor David Jeffrey shared his educational ideas and wished all students to chase their dreams calmly with wisdom and composure.



The ceremony then entered the award presentation and appointment session. Associate Dean for Research James Lee, Associate Dean for Administration and International Affairs Wei Tang, and Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs Di Liu awarded prizes to 15 graduates who obtained the honor of “2026 Outstanding Senior Design”. Associate Dean for Academic Affairs TsunZee Mai issued honorary certificates to 12 students awarded as “2026 Outstanding Graduates of General Institutions of Higher Education in Sichuan Province”. Associate Dean for Student Affairs Ye Li granted appointment certificates to three “2026 Alumni Liaisons”.





With eager anticipation from everyone, the degree conferral ceremony officially began. Professors of the institute conferred degrees in sequence on students from five majors: Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Computer Science, and Electrical and Computer Engineering.





Zhihong Wang, a 2026 graduate majoring in Mechanical Engineering, delivered a speech on behalf of all graduates. He looked back on his four years of study at SCUPI, recalling abundant gains brought by professional studies, mindset transformation, and the development of the institute. On behalf of all graduates, he expressed sincere thanks to the professors, administrative staff, family members, friends, and classmates. He also wished all graduates to forge ahead with enthusiasm and write a warm, responsible new chapter in their lives with their professional capabilities.

At the end of the ceremony, all attendees watched a graduation video and sang the graduation song together, reliving exclusive youthful memories belonging to the Class of 2026.

After the chorus, Yuchen Yang offered further blessings to the graduates and led them in expressing gratitude to the institute leaders, faculty, staff, families, and friends.
