Seminar Review | “New Chapter in May, Transfer on the Way” – The Transfer Series Seminars of Sichuan University-Pittsburgh Institute was successfully held

The Transfer Series Seminars of Sichuan University-Pittsburgh Institute (SCUPI), organized by the Career Advising Group (CA), was successfully held on May 15th and May 16th. The Seminars aimed to help students comprehensively understand the process and key points of transfer applications, including determining the target universities, comprehending their admission criteria, the application materials and precautions required, as well as deeply understanding the curriculum settings and career development prospects of related majors.
The transfer seminar held on May 15th covered three majors: Industrial Engineering (IE), Mechanical Engineer (ME), and Materials Science and Engineering (MSE). It was led by Ms. Grace Wang from the Office of Study Abroad (OSA). At the beginning of the seminar, Grace first shared the trend of transfer and the official admission data of well-known universities, summarized the transfer application situation for the fall of 2024, and analyzed the admission difficulty and transfer requirements of each school based on the admission situation.

Subsequently, Grace invited Zhang Yang, a sophomore from the ME major, and Liu Du, a sophomore from the IE major, to share their transfer experiences. First, Zhang Yang introduced his academic background and research experience, advising students to contact relevant mentors as early as possible to inquire about research and practical activities, so as to enrich resumes and lay a solid foundation for transfers in the future. Following that, Liu Du presented his academic progress and shared his insights on preparing for the TOEFL exam. Both Zhang Yang and Liu Du recommended that students who are interested in transferring should communicate with experienced OSA teachers earlier.

Next, Grace focused on the transfer requirements of renowned universities such as Cornell University, Georgia Institute of Technology, and the University of Wisconsin, emphasizing that students with transfer intentions should pay more attention to prerequisites, application materials, and the “constraints” of school selection. She provided students with a timeline for the transfer and reminded them to follow the WeChat public account of the SCUPI Career Advising Group to book individual consultations. At the end of the session, Ms. Lan Luo from CA distributed customized souvenirs to the two participating students and summarized the event.

On May 16th, Grace provided a detailed introduction to the transfer situation for the two emerging majors of Computer Science(CS) and Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE). She first shared the specific data on successful transfer applications so far and analyzed the admission requirements of well-known universities from the aspects of academic performance, research experience, college activities, and so on.

Subsequently, Grace invited Yang Zhixiao and Sun Zihan, sophomores from the ECE major, to share their transfer experiences, providing valuable reference opinions for the participating students. Both students introduced their personal situations from three aspects: academic performance, research experience, and volunteer service, and provided a detailed timeline for the transfer process. Additionally, they recommended that students interested in transferring should communicate frequently with the OSA teachers regarding issues such as essays and school selection to obtain first-hand information and the best transfer plan.

Later, Grace reiterated the importance of paying special attention to prerequisites, application materials, and the “constraints” of school selection for students interested in transfer. She provided students with a timeline for the transfer process and welcomed those still having doubts about the transfer to come for consultations. At the end of the conference, Lan from CA distributed customized souvenirs to the two participating students and summarized the event.
