On July 4, 2024, Sichuan University – Pittsburgh Institute (SCUPI) in collaboration with Intel Chengdu officially launched its Engineer Innovation Practicum Course, marking a new phase in the depth of cooperation between the two entities in talent cultivation. This collaboration aims to foster future engineers with international perspectives and innovative capabilities through a teaching model that combines theory with practice.

Ms. Vivi Tang, Director of Administration, attended the opening ceremony and remarked in her speech, “We are greatly honored to collaborate closely with Intel, a globally influential technology enterprise. The launch of this course will not only provide our students with the opportunity to learn cutting-edge technologies but also help them develop skills aligned with industry needs, laying a solid foundation for their future careers.”

For this course, Mr. Runxing Yang, a big data expert from Intel Chengdu, was specially invited as the lead instructor. Since April this year, Mr. Yang has served as a corporate career mentor for SCUPI and will now impart knowledge on subjects such as packaging testing and data processing to the 2022 cohort of CS and ECE students. At the opening ceremony, Ms. Tang presented Mr. Yang with a certificate recognizing his contribution to the institutes educational endeavors.

Professor Jianzhao Li, coordinator of ECE program, and Professor Guangwu Qian from CS program, encouraged the students to apply what they learn, to cherish this learning opportunity, to enrich their knowledge base, and to prepare for their next steps in study and planning.

It is worth noting that the partnership between Intel Chengdu and SCUPI began last April when Mr. Xinyu Wu, an alumnus of the 2016 class majoring in Industrial Engineering at the institute and working at Intel Chengdu’s Industrial Engineering Department, became the first alumni mentor to share experiences at the institute, thus initiating the collaboration. Since then, Intel has participated deeply in the institute’s academic activities multiple times, including being invited to the Class 2023 Senior Design Expo and the SCUPI Corporate Open Day, as well as accompanying Dean Chyu on a research visit to Intel. These engagements demonstrated a high level of consensus and close collaboration between the two parties in talent cultivation and scientific research innovation.

Furthermore, in April this year, Intel Chengdu hosted a special Career Experience Day for the students of SCUPI, further enhancing their understanding of the tech industry and career development. In May, the Intel engineering team again participated in the Class 2024 Senior Design Expo, actively engaging in the voting for the Enterprise Choice Award, showcasing the company’s recognition and support for the institute’s educational outcomes.

The inauguration of this Engineer Innovation Practicum Course is yet another milestone in the partnership between SCUPI and Intel. Both parties will continue to join forces, exploring additional possibilities for collaboration, and work together to cultivate high-caliber engineering and technical professionals who can meet the demands of future society, contributing to the advancement of science and technology and social development.
