SCUPI established partnership with Airbus China

Sichuan University – Pittsburgh Institute (SCUPI) signed collaboration agreement with Airbus China to jointly cultivate talents with competencies and skills required by the future aviation industry on November 7th,2023.

The event are part of an Airbus China local initiative known as the Airbus China Campus Programme (ACCP), which is in line with the Early Career Strategy of Airbus globally, The ACCP intends to attract young generations to enrich the talent pool of Airbus in China, capture critical emerging competences in China’s job market to prepare the future, and contribute to sustainable development of China’s civil aviation industry.

Mr. Philippe Pezet, Senior Vice President of International Human Resources, Airbus, Ms. Fei NING, Vice President of Human Resources and Workplace, Airbus China, Mr. Paul Coignec, Head of Human Resources & Health, Safety and Environment, Airbus Asia Pacific, Ms. Xiazhu Zhang, Head of Development, Transformation & Digital Airbus China, Ms. Wenjing Zhu, HR Digital & Performance Management, Airbus China together attended the ceremony.

Dr. Changsheng Zhao, Vice President of Sichuan University, Dr. Minking Chyu, Dean, SCUPI, Dr. TsunZee Mai, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, Dr. James Li, Associate Dean for Research, Dr. Ye Li, Assistant Dean for Student Affairs, Ms. Vivi Tang, Director of Administration, SCUPI faculty, staff, alumni and student representatives were present at the ceremony to witness this milestone event of both parties.

Ms. Michelle Xue was the MC. Dr. Minking Chyu delivered a welcome speech, in which he mentioned that cooperating with world-leading aviation company Airbus is an exemplary collaboration between the university and industry. Dean Chyu hoped that both parties can make good use of this opportunity to actively participate in and support Airbus in achieving sustainable development in the aviation industry, and make positive contributions to society.

Dr. Changsheng Zhao, Vice President of Sichuan University, warmly welcomed Airbus delegation. He highlighted that this cooperation is an important measure for the integration of industry and university in talent cultivation between both parties, and it is expected that SCUPI and Airbus China will work together to continuously provide high-quality talents for the booming development of China’s aviation industry.

Mr. Philippe Pezet, Senior Vice President of International Human Resources, Airbus, delivered a keynote speech and shared insights on Airbus’ sustainable development and talent strategy. Ms. Ning Fei, Vice President of Human Resources and Workplace for Airbus China, as well as Paul Coignec, responsible for Human Resources, Health, Safety, and Environment in the Asia-Pacific region, actively interacted with SCUPI students, answering their questions and providing guidance.

Ms. Ning Fei, Vice President of Human Resources and Workplace for Airbus China, and Dr. Minking Chyu, Dean of SCUPI signed a cooperation agreement. Mr. Philippe Pezet and Dr. Changsheng Zhao, witnessed the signing of the agreement. Subsequently, Mr. Philippe Pezet and Dr. Changsheng Zhao unveiled the plaque for the university – industry cooperation for talent cultivation in aviation between Airbus China and SCUPI.

This partnership agreement underlines our commitment to work hand-in-hand with universities to develop and secure the competences that the aerospace industry requires in the future, said Philippe Pezet.

The partnership with SCUPI is a useful addition to our global university partner programme which will support our sustainable growth together with the Chinese aviation industry. Talent acquisition is becoming one of our priorities alongside Airbus’ business ramping-up and steady growth in China in recent years. In addition to attracting experienced candidates, the need to recruit young talent is increasingly urgent for a more sustainable development of Airbus in China, said Fei Ning. Developing a talent pipeline is vital to our success. We are proud to partner with such prestigious university to pursue this objective.

The agreement aims to foster long-term collaboration in areas of mutual interest including the development of strategic competencies, technical and soft skills, the design of common educational programmes, and the cooperation on innovative projects.
