Open Day

On April 17, 2016, Sichuan University – Pittsburgh Institute held its first Open Day. As the first Sino-US joint institute, SCUPI will be adhering to innovation and exploring a new model of educational internationalization with the spirit of openness, cooperation, and communication.

【Admission Policy】 Professor Minking Chyu, Dean of Sichuan University – Pittsburgh Institute (SCUPI), delivered a welcome speech to all attendants. Professor Jie Wang, Associate Dean of SCUPI, Professor Larry Shuman, Senior Associate Dean of Swanson School of Engineering, Professor Mary Besterfield-Sacre, Director of Engineering Education Research Center, Professor Renee Clark, Director of Assessment at Engineering Education Research Center, Xiu’E Jia, Chief of Admission at Admission and Employment Office of Sichuan University, Ai’Min Liao, Deputy Secretary of College of Life Science, student and faculty representatives of SCUPI, senior high students, and their parents attended the session.


【English Open Class】 English teachers, Albert Evans and Andrew Petrie overturned the conventional English class by actively engaging students into dialog – driven group interaction.


【Engineering Open Class】 Michael Reed, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, presented the engineering class through the flipped-classroom model.
