Make Your Dreams Come True—-A review of the lecture given by Professor Tom I.P. Shih of Purdue University It was a great honor to welcome Dr. Tom I.P. Shih from Purdue University to give us a splendid lecture about “dreams,” for the benefit of all attending students. First, Dr. Shih pointed out that every of us can be successful. So what exactly is “success”? To be a president, a dean, or a CEO of a marketing enterprise? For Dr. Shih, success is being a professor, which was his dream. He realized his dream, therefore he is successful. There is no specific definition of success. Once you’ve got a dream, you chase it. Eventually you will succeed. However if one just spends the day thinking, that would be daydreaming. The only way to connect to your dream is to get yourself moving forward. As an old saying goes, “Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is mystery. Today is a gift.” Thus, we as college students have to live for today. And study is still the most important thing for us. Life is difficult but we should push ourselves. Learning every day, practicing every day, and improving every day, are our tremendous responsibility. Be hardworking, active, and confident and take responsibility to be a good student. Dr. Shih prefers students set their own goals. If you want to reach the top, you have to dream big, which however still depends on your personal situation. Before you make your choice or before you dream, please consider who you are. It is easy to get to know other people, while it is quite difficult to know yourself. Do not lie to yourself; find what truly makes you happy and enjoy the journey. That’s how you achieve success. As SCUPIans, we have to take responsibility for our own happiness and make the most of our luck.Author: 李若琪,温晴 Translator:梁蒙
