On May 9, Wang Yuankang, alumni of Materials Science and Engineering of the class of 2019 at SCUPI and a doctoral candidate in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh, returned to his Alma mater, Sichuan University-Pittsburgh Institute (SCUPI). He shared his recent years of life experiences and learning insights with the teachers and students at the Institute. SCUPI teachers and students sent warmly welcome to Wang Yuankang upon his arrival.
During his study at SCUPI, Wang Yuankang earned the honorary titles of “Outstanding Student Leader of Sichuan University” and “Academic Star of SCUPI” and served as the class council leader of the Material Science and Engineering major. During his undergraduate period, Wang Yuankang chose the “3+1” dual degree program and went to the University of Pittsburgh in the United States to complete his fourth academic year and performed excellently. After that, he continued pursuing his master’s and doctoral degrees at the University of Pittsburgh.
After returning to SCUPI many years later, Wang Yuankang recalled his campus life at Sichuan University and said that he established his study plan early because of the open and inclusive learning environment at SCUPI. On the same day, he had an in-depth conversation with TZ Mai and administrators. He also chatted with Wu Yingjie, a current faculty at SCUPI and a former student who also studied for a doctorate in Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh. This afternoon, the Institute held the “University of Pittsburgh Transfer Guidance” for current students. Wang Yuankang, who has lived and studied in Pittsburgh for five years, imparted his experience of studying abroad and shared many practical tips on living, learning, and thriving in Pittsburgh based on his experience and perception. The students actively asked questions and sought advice from Wang. Wang Yuankang also provided answers and suggestions patiently.
Alumni are always a part of the Institute, and alumni growth and development are a significant task. We look forward to more alumni returning to SCUPI and establishing more contact and exchange opportunities for alumni, strengthening the relationship between the university, the Institute, teachers, and students, and better playing a synergistic role in the construction and development of the Institute.
