Subject: Empowering Mathematical Discovery: AI-Enhanced Approaches to Teaching Calculus and Precalculus
Date&Time: Friday, October 11, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM
Speakers: Dr. Zheng Yang
Venue: SCUPI Building N-209, Sichuan University, Jang’an South Campus
In this seminar, Dr. Zheng Yang will present innovative methods for teaching calculus and precalculus, focusing on tasks that promote independent exploration and collaborative problem-solving through AI tools. The study examines three types of tasks: foundational, cultural/historical, and AI-enhanced collaborative tasks, based on case studies with students from San Francisco State University and Sichuan University-Pittsburgh Institute.
This is joint work with Michael Todd Edwards and Tuto Lopez-Gonzalez. Findings suggest that AI enhance student engagement and reasoning, offering new possibilities for integrating AI into mathematics education.
We warmly invite all instructors to participate and discuss how AI can shape our future of teaching and learning.
