To spark students’ interest in biomedical engineering and raise awareness about intracranial aneurysms, Dr. Lunxin Liu, the Department of Neurosurgery at West China Hospital of Sichuan University, hosted a science lecture on the topic of “The Time Bomb Hidden in the Brain—Intracranial Aneurysm” for students at SCUPI on November 15th.
The lecture was hosted by Professor Yue Qiu from West China Hospital of Sichuan University. Before the lecture, Professor Qiu briefly introduced Dr. Liu’s academic career, main research areas, and achievements.
During the lecture, Dr. Liu discussed the current situation and dangers of cerebrovascular diseases. He then traced the development of treatment methods for these conditions, gradually leading to an introduction of intracranial aneurysms, advancements in treatment techniques, and the challenges faced by current treatment methods. Dr. Liu also used documentary clips to explain how engineering technologies such as shape-memory alloys and fluid mechanics are applied in the diagnosis and treatment of intracranial aneurysms, vividly illustrating the vital role of engineering in advancing medical testing and treatment innovations.
Dr. Liu’s insightful explanations left a deep impression on the students, enhancing their understanding of the integration of medicine and engineering. Students listened attentively to the lecture and actively engaged in Q&A.
With the continuous development of technology, the integration between fields has become a key driver of innovation and progress. This lecture showcased the vast prospects of the deep integration of medicine and engineering, sparking students’ curiosity to explore interdisciplinary research.
The Technology and Science Association (TSA) of Sichuan University – Pittsburgh Institute remains committed to serving all students, providing high-quality events, helping them know more about the latest technological advancements, and fostering continuous creativity and collaboration.
