Event Recap | The Overseas Alumni Exchange Event Successfully Held

01 Activity Review

In order to help students gain a deeper understanding of the joint education programs with the University of Pittsburgh and encourage them to plan their academic and career paths in advance, the SCUPI Student Council held an overseas alumni exchange event on February 15. Several successful alumni who participated in the program with the University of Pittsburgh were invited as speakers. They shared insights on key topics including the specific requirements of the program, effective study planning, the real learning and living environment at the University of Pittsburgh, as well as career planning after studying abroad.

Hongyu Piao, majoring in Mechanical Engineering (ME) from the Class of 2025

Research and Daily Life at the University of Pittsburgh

He participated in the 3+1 joint education program with the University of Pittsburgh. He discussed important concerns such as the University’s semester system, living costs, graduation requirements, course intensity, and assessment process. He also shared his experiences with internships, research, and exchange opportunities, emphasizing the significance of the joint education program.

Wenyi Lin, majoring in Industrial Engineering (IE) from the Class of 2025

Academy and Life

She participated in the 3+1 joint education program and shared her experiences in academics and student life at the University of Pittsburgh. She discussed credit requirements for transferring, course difficulty, and the minor program. Additionally, she introduced opportunities such as teaching assistant positions, research, and competitions. She also highlighted the personal growth, resource acquisition, and alumni connections gained from the 3+1 joint education program, encouraging fellow students to get involved.

Tips for Adapting to Overseas Daily Life

He shared his experiences as a participant in the 2+2 joint education program. He talked about the preparation needed upon arrival in Pittsburgh, daily arrangements, administrative stuff, and how to adapt to life there, including tips on clothing, food, accommodation, and travel. He also shared insights into the colorful campus life and his study-abroad experience.

Overseas Life and Personal Growth

She shared her overseas life and growth experiences. She discussed the challenges she faced during her adaptation period, including language barriers, academic pressures, and cultural differences. She expressed how this experience enhanced her skills in cross-cultural communication and independent thinking and also shared her daily life and travel experiences in Pittsburgh.

The event concluded successfully. During the sharing sessions, students actively interacted with the alumni, gaining valuable insights and developing a clearer understanding of their academic and career paths. Moving forward, Sichuan University-Pittsburgh Institute will continue to organize related events to support the future development of our students.
