On Friday, April 10th, at 5:00 PM, the third SCUPI SONIC English Speech Showcase, organized by the International English Association of Sichuan University-Pittsburgh Institute (SCUPI), was successfully held on the Jiang’an South Campus of Sichuan University. Under the careful guidance of Instructor Mo Xu, more than 20 faculty members and leaders, together with nearly 100 students, gathered to witness a heartwarming display of English speeches.

Under the theme “Begin Again,” this year’s SCUPI SONIC departed from traditional competitive formats. Instead, it created a space for genuine expression and natural brilliance for everyone brave enough to take the stage.

The five contestants in this year’s SCUPI SONIC were Jiachen Sun, Junxi Ni, Jiayu Li, Cailing Qiao, and Hao Xu. They overcame their nerves, broke through their limits, and presented their most authentic selves to the audience.

True to its theme, the showcase featured no rankings or scores, moving away from the traditional “judges + competition” model. Each contestant began with a spirit of self-affirmation and awarded themselves a unique, personalized honor, ensuring that every style and every act of bravery was seen and appreciated.

Faculty members and students in the audience immersed themselves in the presentations as enthusiastic spectators and cast their votes for the “Audience Choice Award.” Ultimately, the award went to Jiayu Li, a student from the Class of 2028 majoring in Industrial Engineering.

The event also featured a special open mic session, where faculty members and students shared the stage, offering their insights on “Begin Again” and infusing the exchange with both passion and warmth.

During the event, a special video from past SCUPI SONIC participants was also shown. Time may pass, but former students who once took the stage sent their blessings to this year’s contestants, sharing what “Begin Again” truly means to them.

From the initial registration to the final showcase, from behind the scenes to the spotlight, the success of SCUPI SONIC stemmed from everyone’s dedication and enthusiasm. Thank you to all the contestants for your courage on stage, to the teachers for your support and hard work, and to every member of the audience for your encouragement and applause.
