At 19:00 on December 7th, 2025, SCUPI English Association and the “Global Horizons” Program from Sichuan University jointly held an oral English club event themed “How to Correctly View AI Technology Applications and the Virtual Experiences They Bring.” The event featured on-site guidance from three teachers: David Jeffrey, Gamil Alamrani, and Mo Xu. The event attracted active participation from both Chinese and international students from various colleges of Sichuan University.

After the hosts introduced the event agenda, student Liya Ma delivered a concise and heartfelt speech to kick off the event. Her enthusiastic words not only showcased the charm of English expression but also ignited the atmosphere.

During the subsequent ice-breaking session, students gathered in groups for conversations and brief self-introductions. This not only helped everyone get to know each other but also laid the groundwork for collaboration in the following jigsaw activity.

As the conclusion of the ice-breaking session, the jigsaw task tested the teamwork of group members while cleverly foreshadowing the event’s theme. As the puzzle gradually took shape, the atmosphere reached a minor climax, with the anticipation in the students’ eyes reflecting their curiosity about the topic.

Student Yucheng Lin delivered a speech, noting that the event’s theme was both innovative and practical, challenging students’ depth of understanding of AI while also requiring clear logical thinking and analytical skills.

Afterward, each group was assigned different discussion tasks, sparking a lively and intense discussion on-site. Following passionate exchanges of ideas, representatives from each group took turns presenting their discussion results. Student judges summarized, scored, and provided on-site feedback.
Students expressed that we should cherish the genuine emotions, authentic connections, and real growth in our lives, as the satisfaction derived from the virtual world can feel hollow. They emphasized the importance of not becoming overly immersed in virtual experiences to the detriment of real-world values. The three professors, however, noted that the future is the era of AI. They encouraged proactive acceptance of technological advancements while maintaining rational judgment toward AI-generated content. They advised against blind trust or being controlled by technology, stressing the need to uphold our own agency and use AI tools wisely and appropriately.

The audience participated in a unified vote, creating a tense atmosphere. After efficient tallying by the staff, the hosts announced the results: Honglin Peng was honored as the Best Speaker, while Ziyi Xiao and Yahui Luo received Participation Awards. The exchange event was successfully concluded.

This event provided a high-quality English communication platform for Chinese and international students, helping everyone improve their spoken English through interaction. In the future, we will continue to launch more series events. We sincerely invite students eager to make international friends and enhance their English expression skills to join us. Let’s make progress through expression and build friendships through communication!
