To help students better plan their university life and enhance their academic and research capabilities, the Peer Advisors of Sichuan University – Pittsburgh Institute (SCUPI) hosted the Research and Academic Experience Sharing Session on the evening of March 29th. Based on thorough research, the event covered topics of high interest to students, including study methods, extracurricular activities, time management, and research competitions, offering comprehensive guidance for holistic development.

Study Methods Sharing: Skills about Efficient Learning
Learning is the main task of university life, and mastering scientific study techniques empowers students to obtain knowledge confidently. In this segment, Dongyu Chen (Class of 2027) and Yuchen Wang (Class of 2027) shared their unique insights.

Dongyu distilled his extensive learning experience into a cohesive and interconnected approach. He emphasized that learning should not involve memorizing isolated facts but instead should focus on building connections between concepts to form a holistic knowledge system. By sharing personal anecdotes, he illustrated how this method enhances understanding and efficiency, inspiring peers to find joy in the learning process.

Yuchen led an interactive discussion, guiding attendees through critical questions: adapting to university academics after high school, exam preparation strategies, and coping with academic pressure. His engaging style sparked lively participation, allowing students to exchange ideas in a relaxed atmosphere.
Extracurricular Activities Sharing: Master Your University Journey
Linyue Cai (Class of 2027) and Siyu Leng (Class of 2027) delivered practical advice on balancing academics with extracurricular pursuits, helping students master their university experience.

1 Diverse Campus Activities
They highlighted opportunities and activities like student organization, clubs, volunteering, internships, and social practices. Through personal stories and cases, they demonstrated how these experiences broaden horizons, nurture interests, and foster personal growth.

2 Balance Academics and Activities
Siyu encouraged students to prioritize academic commitments while pursuing passions. She advised selecting activities aligned with personal interests and avoiding burnout by setting realistic limits.
Linyue shared time management strategies, emphasizing task prioritization based on urgency and importance. She advocated for early mornings and daytime productivity over late-night cramming to maintain health and efficiency.
Research and Competition Insights
Jingjie Wang (Class of 2025), Hongyu Piao (Class of 2025), and Chenxu Wang (Class of 2025) (via online) shared invaluable advice about working on research and competitions.
1. Competition Tips

Jingjie, a six-time participant in the University Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Training Program, stressed the importance of teamwork and focusing on learning rather than ratings. For competitions like the Mathematical Contest in Modeling (MCM), he advised choosing suitable topics and prioritizing high-quality visual presentations.

Hongyu categorized competitions into skill-based (short-term, skill-building) and project-based (research-focused, multi-competition potential). He recommended selecting reputable, skill-enhancing contests while maintaining academic-life balance.
2. Research Guidance
Chenxu, majored in Industrial Engineering, outlined research fields like supply chain management, data science, and operations research. He shared strategies for securing projects through SCUPI projects, connecting with professors, and asking questions in class. His stressed that we should explore diverse opportunities to discover true passions.
Attendees praised the session for its numerous advice. The insights enriched their knowledge and equipped them with confidence for future academic and research endeavors.

Conclusion
The sharing session concluded successfully, offering students inspiration and role models across academics, extracurriculars, and research. With the guidance of these experienced peers, attendees are now better prepared to plan their university lives and embrace challenges toward bright futures.
