At 13:30 on October 17th, the Panda Youth Volunteer Association of Sichuan University -Pittsburgh Institute successfully carried out a volunteer activity themed “Safety First, Say ‘No Way!’ to Danger” at the Baijiachang Community. This event focused on promoting safety knowledge, aiming to enhance residents’ self-protection awareness and emergency response capabilities through the dissemination of safety information, including fire prevention and theft prevention. From knowledge explanations to interactive Q&A sessions, the entire activity combined education with entertainment, deeply instilling safety awareness in the residents.

The volunteers were divided into groups to deliver explanations on three main themes: fire prevention, fraud prevention, and theft prevention. For fire prevention, the volunteers used PowerPoint illustrations to demonstrate the correct usage of fire extinguishers to the elderly, introduced the appropriate scenarios for different types of fire extinguishers, and explained key points for scientific escape during a fire. Regarding fraud prevention and theft prevention, the volunteers analyzed common fraud tactics and theft prevention measures by combining typical cases and personal experiences, further deepening the residents’ understanding of safety knowledge.

During the Q&A session, the volunteers posed questions based on the content explained and prepared gifts for those who answered correctly. The residents eagerly raised their hands to participate and actively expressed their opinions. After the Q&A, the volunteers patiently listened to and addressed the residents’ questions. Many elderly participants expressed that such activities allowed them to gain knowledge while also enjoying themselves.
At the end of the event, two participants proactively shared their reflections on the activity. The volunteers presented souvenirs to every resident, and a group photo was taken to capture this memorable moment. Many residents remarked that this event helped them notice safety details they usually overlook, improving their risk prevention awareness and capabilities, which benefits not only themselves but also their families.

This activity effectively conveyed practical safety knowledge and skills in a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere, significantly enhancing the safety prevention and response capabilities of the elderly in the community. In the future, the Panda Youth Volunteer Association of the Institute will continue to deepen its collaboration with the Baijiachang Community, launching more diverse and higher-quality volunteer service projects to serve the community.
