On June 5th, 2026, the Deans’ Open Forum Session 5 was successfully held at the Sichuan University-Pittsburgh Institute (SCUPI). The event was moderated by student counselor Fan Yang. All members of the institute’s leadership team and teachers from relevant functional departments attended the meeting. Before the event, questionnaires were distributed to extensively collect students’ feedback. Questions were sorted and summarized into four major categories: institute development, teaching and research, student activities, and campus logistics. The attending leaders gave on-site responses and detailed answers to all questions.

During the event, Dean Minking Chyu delivered an overview of the institute’s educational philosophy and medium-to-long-term development plans. We will continue to carry out the work related to SCUPI. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education has approved the establishment of the Sichuan University-Auckland Institute (SCAI). The new institute will focus on cultivating innovative engineering talents, continuously expand international cooperation resources, and further improve the talent training system.

Relevant leaders responded one by one regarding teaching management and research practices. We will further optimize teaching management, enrich online teaching resources, and refine arrangements for course Q&A sessions and academic assessments. In terms of research, all laboratories of the institute will be fully accessible to students. We will integrate high-quality resources both on and off campus to build diverse platforms for research and practical training. It will also guide students to foster a sound understanding of academic research, encouraging them to conduct academic exploration on a solid professional foundation and avoid blind participation in research projects.

As for student affairs and campus logistics support, we will diversify cultural and sports activities in line with the development pace to foster a positive educational atmosphere. Feedback on daily logistics issues, including dormitory management, catering services, infrastructure, and campus order, has been fully collected. We will forward these demands to the relevant administrative departments. In addition, regular psychological counseling services and specialist clinics are available at Jiang’an Campus to safeguard students’ physical and mental health.

The session then moved to on-site communication. Student representatives raised questions actively concerning study, life, further education, and other topics, to which the attending leaders provided thorough answers.

At the end of the event, the institute leaders stated that we will keep multiple communication channels open, including the suggestion box, curriculum feedback meetings, and daily talks. A regular mechanism for collecting, handling, and responding to opinions is established to earnestly address the difficulties and concerns of faculty and students.

This exchange meeting further bridged the gap between teachers and students, aligned perceptions, and pooled consensus for future development. Going forward, all faculty and students will work together to drive the high-quality and internationalized development of the institute.
