Delegation from Flemish Brabant, Belgium, Visits Sichuan University to Deepen International Education Collaboration

A delegation led by Governor Jan Spooren of Flemish Brabant, Belgium, visited Sichuan University (SCU) to strengthen international educational partnerships. Professor Chao Liu, Vice President of Sichuan University, warmly received the delegation at Mingde Building on Wangjiang Campus. Ms. Ling Bai, Director of the European Affairs Division of Chengdu Foreign Affairs Office, and representatives from the Sichuan University–Pittsburgh Institute (SCUPI) attended the meeting.

Professor Minking Chyu, Dean of SCUPI, extended a heartfelt welcome to the delegation and highlighted the Institute’s decade-long commitment to global education and talent development. He emphasized the newly launched dual-degree program with KU Leuven, a top-ranked Belgian university, as a milestone in expanding SCU’s international network and cultivating globally competent engineers.

Vice President Chao Liu highlighted Sichuan University’s achievements in Sino-foreign cooperative education and the complementary strengths of SCU and KU Leuven. He expressed optimism about deepening collaboration in student exchanges, joint research, and cross-cultural dialogue, in alignment with broader China-Belgium civilizational exchanges.

Governor Jan Spooren noted that the visit coincided with the 2025 Chengdu International Sister Cities Conference, positioning it as a catalyst for faculty-student exchanges, talent co-development, and industry-academia-research collaboration. He praised the forthcomingSCUPI-KU Leuven dual-degree program as a transformative initiative aimed at addressing global challenges in education and engineering.

During the open discussion, both sides explored opportunities in curriculum design, joint research projects, and cross-cultural learning. The event concluded with a ceremonial exchange of gifts and group photos, symbolizing the deepening of bilateral ties.

This visit established a solid foundation for collaboration between Sichuan University and Flemish Brabant in education, talent development, and scientific innovation. SCUPI reaffirmed its commitment to fostering open and inclusive partnerships with global institutions in pursuit of excellence in international education.
