On February 28th, our Career Advising Group invited Mr. Shaolong Sui, founder and CEO of BuilderX to share his story in studies, work, and entrepreneurship.

At this sharing session, Mr. Sui first introduced the main research projects and achievements of BuiderX: turning excavators into robots.

Following that, Mr. Sui shared six personal stories, vividly narrating how he transferred to the University of Michigan Ann Arbor and then was successfully admitted by Stanford University for a master’s program with his ordinary GPA from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, his learning experience at Stanford, how he secured an internship at Tesla with three phone calls, why he entered Apple, and the reasons behind returning to China to start a business.

Mr. Sui offered practical advice and references for students on future career choices and how to develop a unique personality and rich, multidimensional personal experiences. His story tells us that in university, uniqueness doesn’t necessarily have to be represented by GPA; instead, one should actively seek opportunities, adjust their mindset, develop critical thinking on the authenticity of information, and form objective self-confidence. Seize every opportunity to try and strive, and forge one’s own path.
