On November 13, 2025, Jason Huang, an alumnus of the 2021 class of Sichuan University – Pittsburgh Institute (SCUPI), returned to his Alma mater to share in depth with current students on the theme of “Cross-disciplinary Learning Planning and Employment in the Financial Industry.”

Jason Huang was admitted to the Industrial Engineering major at SCUPI in 2017. Later, he continued his studies at the University of Pittsburgh through the “2+2” joint program. During his undergraduate years, he also minored in mathematics and economics. After graduation, he was successfully admitted to the Master of Finance program at The University of Hong Kong and is now working in a business position at a public fund company.

At the sharing session, Jason Huang, drawing on his own experiences, elaborated on three aspects: cross-disciplinary learning, career planning and positioning, and an overview of the financial industry and its entry paths. Regarding academic development, he advised students to be bold in trying different directions and to deeply explore self-awareness from dimensions such as professional interests, personal character, and strengths and weaknesses. He emphasized that only by truly understanding oneself can one clarify the direction of development and avoid being swayed by external influences or blindly chasing popular fields without considering the match with one’s own traits. Jason mentioned that during his undergraduate years, it was through continuous self-reflection, taking courses taught by Professor TZ Mai, and actively participating in college activities that he gradually clarified a development path suitable for himself. During the graduate application stage, based on his future career goals, he resolutely chose a region with richer internship and employment resources.

Regarding career planning, Jason reminded students to abandon the mindset of “reaching the top in one step”. He pointed out that the financial industry is highly competitive and requires multiple internships and continuous adjustments. Using his own experience as an example, he frankly admitted that before reaching the peak, the road is inevitably tortuous and arduous. The key lies in maintaining a tenacious will, constantly reflecting on one’s original intention, and continuously adjusting one’s mindset in practice. He encouraged students to not fear difficulties in the early stages of their careers, start from basic positions, and gradually accumulate experience and hone their abilities. Additionally, Huang Ziyang also introduced the overall scale of the financial industry and its current development trends.

At the end of the sharing session, he once again encouraged the students to make good use of the college’s resources, to do every small thing solidly, to put their ideas into practice, and to integrate them into academic projects and classroom experiments. For those who are interested in entering the financial field, he particularly emphasized the importance of “thinking more” – only by thinking deeply can one discover what others have not seen. At the same time, he also reminded everyone that when planning for the future, they must respect their own feelings and inner thoughts.

During the interactive session, the students asked questions enthusiastically, and had a lively exchange with Jason on academic development and career choices. After the sharing session, he also visited the Institute’s new building and caught up with his former teachers.
