Activity Review| “Professional Insights, Frontier Exploration” — SCUPI’s Major Seminar Series were successfully held

From 12:30 to 13:30 on March 27, 2024, the major seminar series, targeted five majors: Mechanical Engineering (ME), Materials Science and Engineering (MSE), Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE), Computer Science(CS), and Industrial Engineering (IE), themed “Professional Insights, Frontier Exploration”, were successfully held on the second floor of Zone 4, Liberal Arts Building, Jiang’an Campus of Sichuan University. The seminar series specifically insight on major development directions and employment prospects.
Mechanical Engineering (ME) major seminar was successfully held in Room 201. Associate Professor Xu Jin, as the main speaker, introduced the hierarchical structure of ME courses to the students, elaborated on the fields involved in the major, and provided a thorough analysis of industry development prospects and future employment directions. After the sharing, Associate Professor Xu Jin engaged in discussions with the students on future development directions and provided them with professional career counseling and academic guidance.
Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) major seminar was successfully held in Room 202. Assistant Professor Gong Shan, as the main speaker, delved into the connotation and external development directions of the MSE major, interpreting it as a major capable of bridging across lengths and scales. Subsequently, Professor Gong Shan explored the potential market value of the MSE major and highlighted its crucial position in the field of technological development. Finally, he addressed the students’ questions regarding further education and employment.
Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) major seminar was successfully held in Room 203. Firstly, Professor Li Jianzhao introduced the significance of studying the ECE major, outlined the relevant courses, and pointed out the employment directions. Subsequently, he enumerated the applications of ECE in daily life and shared the latest technological dynamics and future industry development trends. In addition, Professor Li Jianzhao also delineated the fundamental qualities he anticipates ECE students to possess and motivated them to aim for their goals.
Computer Science (CS) major seminar was successfully held in Room 216. Assistant Professor Ouyang Yuqi, as the main speaker, introduced the cutting-edge technologies related to the CS major, such as Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, and Cloud Computing, based on his own learning experience. Subsequently, assistant Professor Ouyang Yuqi collected the students’ questions and concerns about the major through a questionnaire and answered them one by one. Finally, he provided a detailed introduction to employment prospects and work directions, as well as research areas and further education directions, covering renowned enterprises, internship experiences, individual assessment, and programming languages.
Industrial Engineering (IE) major seminar was successfully held in Room 204. Associate Professor Liu Yang took renowned industrial engineers Henry Ford and Tim Cook as starting points to introduce the application areas of the IE major. Subsequently, he outlined the relevant courses and introduced top institutions in this field, encouraging students to strive forward. Finally, he addressed the students’ questions about career development paths and employment prospects.
The major seminar series organized by Career Advising Group of SCUPI not only offered students an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of diverse majors, but also served as a platform for communication and exchange. Students actively posed questions regarding professional development and career paths, with faculty members providing comprehensive responses to address their concerns.
