2017 Matriculation Ceremony

On the September 15th , 2017, Matriculation Ceremony for the class of 2017 was held on the Jiangan Campus, Chengdu. Xie Heping, the President of Sichuan University (SCU), Li Guangxian, the Executive Vice President of SCU, Liang Bin, the Vice President of SCU, Li Rongjun, the Vice President of SCU, Minking Chyu, the Dean of Sichuan University – Pittsburgh Institute (SCUPI), Larry Shuman, Distinguished Service Professor and Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at the University of Pittsburgh Swanson School of Engineering (Pitt), attended the ceremony. Representatives from other departments and schoolsof Sichuan University, all faculty, staff and students from SCUPI attended the ceremony to celebrate the freshman students’ beginning of their academic journey at SCUPI.
President Xie gave a welcome speech to congratulate freshman students for becoming SCUPIANS and expressed his expectation to the class of 2017: study hard and be a good world citizen who can assume historical heritage and deal with globalization challenge.
Chancellor Patrick Gallagher, the president of Pitt, also gave a warm welcome to the freshman students via video. Chancellor Gallagher mentioned that SCUPI as a Sino-US joint institute is aiming at producing outstanding engineers and scholars. At SCUPI, students will have a productive and enjoyable journey.
